Dr. Jacqueline Rakov is a Melbourne-trained specialist clinical and forensic psychiatrist, and a Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).

Dr. Rakov studied medicine at Monash University. She undertook her clinical specialty training in psychiatry at The Alfred Hospital, concurrently completing a Masters of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne.

Following her General psychiatric training, Dr. Rakov undertook sub-specialty Advanced Training by way of a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health (Forensicare). Whilst also completing further post graduate study in Forensic Behavioural Sciences at Swinburne University, she worked across Victoria’s correctional system, assessing and treating mentally ill and/or behaviourally problematic offenders both in custody and the community, in acute, sub-acute and rehabilitation settings.

Dr. Rakov also completed a Masters of Health Professions Education through Monash University. She regularly teaches medical students and trainee psychiatrists on a voluntary basis, as well as providing CPD to criminal lawyers through the VLA Professional Legal Education department.

As a forensic psychiatrist, Dr. Rakov has experience in the preparation of psychiatric reports and delivering expert evidence to the Courts, and is experienced in criminal matters of fitness, mental impairment and sentencing across the Court hierarchy. She has provided evidence in civil matters pertaining to medical negligence, standard of care, psychiatric opinion, parenting and family court matters and has presented evidence in matters to the Federal Circuit Court, and to Civil & Administrative Tribunals. Dr. Rakov is accredited in Family Report Writing by the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) and has completed further training in Psychiatric Assessments for the Family Court through Mindful and Monash University.

In a treatment capacity, Dr. Rakov is passionate about delivering personalised and expert care to her patients. She has worked extensively with both victims and perpetrators of crime. She works publicly in general and forensic psychiatry in a community setting. Privately, she treats older adolescent and adult patients and consults on a variety of psychiatric concerns. Apart from general adult psychiatry, her further interests include developmental trauma, interpersonal conflict and psychotherapy. She has completed further training through the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists.

Dr. Rakov collaborates closely with GPs, specialists, correctional services and other professionals where necessary. Having completed extra-curricular studies in creative writing at NYU, Dr. Rakov finds the human narrative the fundamental part of her psychiatric practice. Dr. Rakov believes in advocacy, justice, and the human right to be mentally well. Dr. Rakov is the only female, RANZCP-accredited forensic psychiatrist that is undertaking private treatment work in Melbourne.
